BMX-styled good times back here in Portland...seems like the hard efforts chasing Mike and Joe around the WORS courses has paid off....kicked it at my first ever Portland Short Track event last Monday night....
Lined up for the 1/2 hour 'cross style' Singlespeed race...about 45 or so of us..lots of familiar faces from last autumn cross event. Typical Portland mellow scene..lots of Zoo Bombers all around on their crazy machines..
Went out medium hard and got with the lead group of two on the first lap. The three of us road away and maintained a solid clip as we hammered out the next 4 laps...log piles, dirt berms, step up kickers...damn, it was way fun.
Got the bell lap and still felt some gas in the tank...so I went to the front and simply raised the pace a bit. Got a small gap that grew as the 34x18 spun like hell.
Solo'd into a sweet win against the local favorites...fun being the one to rain on the parade.
With only a half hour of racing on the legs, I lined up first row for the Pro/Expert event. Only guy covered in dirt in the front row...but I figured what the hell. Fast start but the SS held tough and got into the first group early. Epic ride..nice and fast.
